Hello there! And if you're coming here from the Blogger's Quilt Festival, welcome!
I had great plans to finish this quilt in time for the Blogger's Quilt Festival. Well, that didn't quite happen. If you look closely you'll notice that I haven't finished the binding. But I still wanted to show it off, so here's my entry for the Blogger's Quilt Festival this spring:
I don't know if this one really has a name yet, but in my mind I call it the Earth, Sky, and Water quilt.
I started this quilt back in... 2004/2005, so it's been a while coming. I wanted to try a bargello style quilt, and I started in the beginning by trying to dye some fabric. But I really didn't like the result, so I ended up making the blue section just for some fun.
After I got the blue done I really liked how it turned out, so I decided to do a green section.
And then a purple section. I didn't think about it until the purple section, but at that point I realized that I needed them to be relatively the same size.. fortunately they all turned out to be within about three inches of each other, which was lucky.
At that point, I realized I needed a lot of sashing to make the quilt bed-sized, so I decided a nice marbled black would work well. Used some of the leftover strips for the border bits, and that was that.
The quilting is just squares and rectangles of assorted sizes, but I think it's effective. And I love how the colored quilting sections overlap... hopefully you can see it in this picture with the purple and green.

Anyway, it's turned out quite nicely, and fortunately my husband likes it, so it's going to be staying with him. :) And with me. :)I hope you enjoy the Festival, and hopefully this will inspire you in some fun way!

I love bargello. Your is very pretty and soothing.
That is a pretty long journey for this quilt, but it is very good looking and interesting to look at. I like the broad sashing. That marbled black goes with absolutely anything and definitely with your three color combos. Thank you for sharing your quilt's story :)
It is gorgeous. I love the 3 colors and how the sashing separates them. Very neat.
Great choice for the quilting. Very nice quilt.
this looks great and i love the quilting.
Sara,
I love your bargello quilt- the colors and movement within the quilt are fabulous. I really like the name you have chosen too.
Black is such a great way to set off a quilt.
Thanks for sharing- Enjoy the festival.

This is really a beautifully, restful quilt for the bed.
I'm really inspired by your quilting design. I hadn't thought of overlapping squares and rectangles and may just borrow this idea in the future.
Thank you for sharing this quilt, and giving us closeups of the quilting.
This is stunning.
